I've always been a fan of using microphones, but I recently recorded direct out the rear of my 400 and realized I've been doing it wrong these past few years. I know a lot of you guys and gals are live players (which this also could apply), but for those who record, what are your thoughts?

I've recorded one Steel Guitar CD and I've done many other recordings (backup for singers) using the Preamp Out on a Nashville 400 and it has worked good. Maybe it's just my Franklin guitar, but I run direct to the board through a D.I. box (to get the Low impedence) and no EQ is required either on record or mixdown for the steel.

My last CD was recorded "direct" using a Nashville 1000 on some of the songs and "direct" using a Rocktron Sidewinder preamp's "recording out jacks" for the rest of the songs. Same way, no EQ either on recording or mixdown.

I too have done this but have steered BACK to direct recording thru a tube preamp.

The overall sound was ok..

I have found that using the 4 band full parametric EQ onboard the Workstation I can dial in a smoother more consistent response and it will be a much cleaner. The EQ patch starts with basically the same settings that I use on the N400..then gets tweaked from there.

Always recording dry and flat..adding EQ and effects Post input.

both worlds work..it's the ears that matter..if it sounds good, don't mess with it...

I have always been able to get a good sound to a recorder with a preamp w/EQ. I think the NV 400 works good that way. I am now using a small preamp between my guitar and the board. I monitor with headphones. I love the sound.

I also record that way. Preamp out to a
signal booster to a CD recorder. I use
the booster so i don't have to turn the
amp volume high to get the proper record
level on the recorder.Ron
