My amplifier does not hum, except when I start to increase the volume on the Hilton pedal. Do any of you experience this and is the pedal therefore going bad. It is over 2 years old. |

Are you sure it's not something else, like single coil pickups in the steel or a bad cable?
Connect the steel direct to the amp input, bypass the volume control and any effects. See if you still have it. |

Try turning your amp volume down, it may be set too high. Just a thought!

Robert, thanks for using my pedal. Let me try and help you. Jack is on the right track. Jack's method is great if you have no effect boxes in your signal chain. Try this: Take the pedal out of the system. Run a straight cord from where the input of the pedal was, and the output of the pedal was. You can make this connection, eliminating the pedal with one cord. This will be wide open volume, because it is a straight cord, with no volume control. Now listen for noise: Is the noise present? If the noise is present, and is the same as the pedal when it is wide open, it is not the pedal causing the noise. If there is more noise, with the test, return the pedal to me for repairs. Include your e-mail address. I have very few noise problems. When I do have one, I get to the bottom of the problem. Thanks. |

Keith, thanks for your response and test to determine a solution to the problem. Your test eliminates the Pedal. The amp hums whenever you increase the volume, no matter where you have the master volume control set. This is a new Peavey MP-600 and I have had a problem with a severe pop when I turn the amp on or off from the time I purchased it. I just make sure that the master volume control is at zero and then the pop is hardly noticeable, but now there are other things starting to happen, so I guess I will have to take it back to the Music Store and have it checked out, nothing lasts forever. I did notice that it is made in China, maybe that has something to do with it.
Thanks for all your help. As usual you are all the best.
Sincerely!

Robert, all the Peavey Amps have the POP when you turn them on. This does not seem to cause any problems. Most of Peavey's equipment is extremely reliable. Made in China, that is interesting, I thought their equipment was made in Mississippi. Here is some food for thought: I recently bought a gas tank for my 1954 Ford tractor. The cost was $245.00, and it was made in China. You can not find a 1954 Ford tractor gas tank made in the United States. Hilton Pedals are made in Ozark, Missouri USA. Hi Bob, I didn't have time to talk with you, but I enjoyed hearing you play a few tunes at the State Fair on opening day. Your system sounded just fine, and your playing was great and entertaining as always.
You had a good crowd!
Keep Steelin'!

Robert, you never mentioned if the amp hums with nothing plugged into the input. If it does not hum when you disconnect the cable from the input, the amp is okay.
