I am looking to but an 8 string resonator. I hope to find it used. Do the "Dobro" D models, sound roughly the same as their
6-string counterparts? Are there any others that sound better. I understand that this is subjective, but I need some direction. It's not like I can go to my local "NJ Dobro store" and comparison shop. I just need some input from those more experienced than myself. I had hoped to use a tuning similar to the top 8 of a C6 Pedal steel (with the D, or 9th, on top) but tuned down to about G6 for depth. Does this make sense to anyone but me? Buck

I play an 8 string dobro and really like it.
I tune it to a A6th with an E on top. Many moons ago, I learned steel on a A tuning so I've always played dobro in an A tuning instead of a G tuning. I wonder if Roy Acuff's dobro player didn't do the same. The 8 string dobro is made for a 6th tuning. IMHO
