Is there a difference in the performance, or the coloring of the sound or the volume, what?
My FSK has a ceramic I guess, I do know it will take a long time to really loosen it up but this may be the speaker material and construction and nothing to do with the magnet material.

LArry, have you talked with Mike MacIntosh over at Brownell, he is a veritable compendium of speaker knowledge.
Oh yeah, the simple answer to your question is "yes" there is a difference, but it's mostly noticeable in the ratio of weight to efficiency. |

The ceramic magnets are stronger than the old AlNiCo's, so they do sound different. Their efficiency is better, and they have more "punch" and clarity than the AlNiCo's, and that helps as far as watts in/watts out.
If I had to sum up the differences, the AlNiCo's are smooth and sweet, and the ceramics are crisp and loud. Given my druthers, I'd use the AlNiCos for recording, and the ceramics for gigging. |
