My POD XT has firmware version 1.01 which does not support updates by USB. I have to use a PC Sound card gameport to MIDI adapter cable to update it to the latest firmware, then can do future updates by USB. Hate to buy a new cable for a one-time use.
Anyone have one of these cables I can beg, buy, borrow, trade? Will only need it once.

My POD XT came with a very early firmware version when I bought it last year. It didn't have the firmware version that came out last year (don't remember what versions). But, I was able to use the USB to do the updates.
The USB interface is a prime feature on the XT's, are you absolutely positive the POD XT is the problem? Have you tried it? You need to download and install the USB drivers from Line 6. If it won't connect it may still be a PC issue, not the XT. |

When I connected my used POD XT to my PC with USB cable, I was able to update the USB driver. When I tried to update the firmware, got a message "this firmware version does not support USB updates". Then I downloaded the file and tried to "update from file" same problem. Then went on the Line 6 site to their forums and confirmed that MIDI cable was necessary to upgrade from v. 1.01. My POD XT Live and Pro both upgraded with no issues but their firmware was more recent than 1.01. So I ordered a MIDI cable adapter.

I think you have to go to the line 6 website then download their usb firmware into your computer (Mine wouldn't work either). Then start all of your new configurations into your pod. I had to update my computer usb firmware first. That file for your usb ports is also on the line 6 website.

Thanks to Mark Tulbert for loaning me a cable to do the transfer. The firmware is now updated to v. 2.14 and I can use USB now.
