Anyone use one for dobro? I've got a McEntyre "feather" pickup and am curious what kind of comments and/or advice anyone might have...
I know dobro amplification/miking topics have been covered to death, and I HAVE read what I could on the archives... but this is a pretty specific question and I haven't read anything that was recent.
thanks... |

The Baggs Para-DI does make it so that the amplified sound from my dobro doesn't suck quite so bad. It doesn't sound good, but it's a lot more usable. It's the best pre that I have used for amplified dobro (I also have the McEntyre). I also own a Pendulum, which is supposed to be great, but I prefer the Baggs for the dobro.

I use the Baggs W/ a Fishman passive and a mic and like it just fine for the amount
that I use it. I try to only use the mic, except when I just cant get enough volume Like when the drummer wont "lighten up"! Works well for me...

Thanks guys... I've got rehearsals coming up this week where I'll be able to run it through the p.a. (and in-ear monitors) and tweak it. Any suggestions for ballpark eq settings to start with? And does anyone use a little reverb in the effects loop?

Pete,
I run the low all the way up and treble almost all the way down and I do have a little verb in my ears.

This is great unit. As mentioned above the notch filters are most handy for reducing feedback.
An old Indian trick is to boost each band until it starts ringing, then cut it enough
to stay way below the feedback threshold.
Another trick is to take the Direct out to a fine preamp to get the tone and sparkle, and then feed it to the PA.
hope this helps

Hey Pete!
I use the Baggs on everything acoustic. Fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo and I have a metal body National with the Fishman pickup. The Baggs is a great unit and makes everything sound better. It's a DI too so that is real handy.

I've been using the Fishman Pro Platinum EQ PreAmp out on tour. I hear it sounds great out front.
