I had not previously seen the Morrell pro model and when it arrived here today I was a bit shocked to see the "fretboard"is just (good grief!!)**painted** on!
Is this the way new lap steels are generally made today?
I can't live with a painted fretboard. Can somebody recommend a good reliable source for separate fretboards?
Also,I have never worked with hard maple, but have done a fair amount of woodworking with soft woods. What do I need to know about drilling holes in hard maple?
The sustain is *outstanding*.This thing just rings forever when plucked, but I have a buzz issue at the bridge on the 3rd string to deal with also.
I got this really cheap as it is a blem.Actually, the blems are mostly on that awful looking imitation of a fretboard so they will dissappear when I mounta real one in place.
Any advice from those who build/modify their guitars would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Malcolm

Malcolm,
Unless you get one of the older Sho-Bud plastic "raised" caricture, or an MSA,you will have to settle for a painted/silkscreened one, that by the way, are easier to keep clean.

I believe Tom Bradshaw is making fretboards that are absolutely beautiful. There was a post sometime back, in the pedal steel section, I believe.

Here's the link. http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum5/HTML/010291.html

Except for replacement~fretboards, it might be a little harder to find a fretboard of the proper scale~length for a Morrell. You might also inquire of Gene Fields, GFI Steel Guitars. I'm not absolutely sure, but; I kinda think you're l©©king for a 22½” scale~length. You had better measure! (Nut to Bridge centers)
