I'm looking for any software help in writing tab. It needs to be able to handle 12 strings. Also, I would like to be able to write it out in standard notation in parallel to the tab, like in Doug Jernigans courses. Is there any software that makes tab easy to enter, and has 12 strings? What about the standard notation - how do I add that to the tab? Any help from those with experience will be appreciated.

Sibelius 3 has a tab function that you can program to do whatever you want.

Thanks, guys. The Tabledit site specifically mentions a pedal steel tab notation, I'm hoping there is no limit to the number of strings. And it converts between tab and standard notation, a fantastic convenience.

It says it can do tab for different instruments, but doesn't specifically mention pedal steel. Does anyone know for sure if it can handle 12 strings?
Tabledit costs about 1/10th of Sibelius, so I'm thinking it will have to do. I am e-mailing TablEdit to make sure it can write tab for 12 strings. [This message was edited by David Doggett on 01 June 2005 at 01:57 PM.] |

| Finale can do it, in fact you can have 20 or more tab lines (!) but if you only want to use it for tab, it is overkill as a program- I'm sure there are easier ones out there. They make a guitar-only edition but I don't know how much of the program is stripped down... |

Finale Guitar is $99 and has customizable tab with standard notation printed above the tab, exactly what I want. There is a better package for $199 that includes drum machine, BIAB link-up, and a few other interesting features; and the full package is around $600 - don't know if I need it. These all seem to be able to play your written music back to you with various orchestration - wow.
My final question now is whether any or all of these allow you to add pedal and lever symbols below the tab? |

Go with TABLEDIT is my advice.
The creator brings out new versions for free regularly just to add specific features for instruments.
I was one of the people who asked for PSG...but also people have asked (and got) tab featrues added for diatonic accordian and harmonica!!!!!!!
