I found this diagram on JJ's web site:

Fascinating! I would have never thought of using a Mesa Studio Preamp in the effects loop of a Roland GP-100. Does anyone else here use two preamps, one in the other's effects loop?

I do almost the same thing with my Boss GX-700 and Stereo Steel Combo amp. The only difference from JJ's setup is that I run my volume pedal in the effects loop of the GX.

The GX's effects loop is treated just like the other effects and is electronically movable, which lets me pick and choose the effects I want before and after the volume pedal.

I have several of the GP-100 processors and use them in different ways. When I use my Evans preamp with the GP-100 effects loop, I shut the preamp section off on the processor. Otherwise, you are running one preamp into another. Or am I wrong here?

I don't use the preamp in my GX-700.

I love the pre-amp in a Roland GP-100.Set it for clean Twin,a little compresson, Mosvalve 500 power amp. It's hard to beat.My problem. My Roland has some age on it.I've had it worked on several times. But it keeps giving me trouble.I know longer trust it to do a gig so I use it here at home.Darn shame. But those Roland folks are really great to help with problems. That's just one of several reasons I use Peavey.

I have used my Gp-100 for about 9 years without any problems at all. I would not mind having something I like as well on hand as a backup now,but the GP-100 has been very dependable. I use it with a Stewart world 1.2 and always use the preamp but I have never tried it as Johan has it connected.

The way I use the Boogie and the volume-pedal gives me the possibilities to make the order in the effectchain the way I want it, effects before or after volumepedal, etc.
I like the pre-amp in the GP100, but the real tubes in the boogie let your steel sing
