Just got this one up and running. It is a handwired clone of the 59 Bassman with a low power tweed twin cabinet. Speakers are a 1956 and 1957 P12N (made for Ampro by Jensen) and re-coned by Ted Weber. Gave a try last night with my Tele's and it was great. I did the finish with a Min-Wax Honey Pine, poly finish.

It has a multi-tap transformer. I am rewiring soon to a switching external speaker jack that will take it from 4 ohms to the 2 ohm tap. I have an identical cab with two EV Force 12's for an extension cab.

Awesome amp and another fun project. This amp sounds great with even no external effects!

Real nice Ken.I did the same thing on a 58 Super..same finish too.tell me, did you apply the minwax before or after you glued it on? I did mine after and got it too heavy at the seems. What glue did you use?Your project looks much better than mine.good job..

The cabinet was already assembled by Mojotone. I used Polyshades by Min-Wax in the Honeytone flavor! I use the spong brushes. They break down fast, so get a few. Two coats, not applied very heavy at all.

The original glue for the amps was and still is hot-melt animal glue. Few use it. Greg Hopkins at Vintage amps and my buddy, Pat Conner in Portland, Oregon are two that use the correct PotDevin machine and animal glue. I use water-based contact cement for my coverings. Works well!

See Gregg at work here: http://www.vintage-amp.com/cbrestor.htm

Gregg also owns Victoria Luggage and makes the orignal style covers for tweed amps. He also makes the cabs for Victoria amps.

See Pat's work, he does the covering for the new Fender guitar seats: http://www.overkilldesign.com/products.php?productid=13

The tweed I've seen from Mojo already had a
coating applied on it. Sort of goldish tint.
Was that the case with this before you put the Minwax on it?

Yes, that is how it was when I got it. They called it a protective coating. The Mini-Wax really makes it looks so much better!
Just got the output jacks wired to switch from 4 ohms to 2 ohms when the extension is plugged in. Wow, what a tone! The extension has the EV Force 12's and the main is the Jensen's. Got my steel running in it with an old Sho-Bud pedal, Ibanez DDL-10 (digital delay) and a Boss RV-5 for reverb. Best my Carter U-12 has ever sounded and trust me, I have seen a lot of amps thru my place in the last 6 years! This amp is probably around 40 watts and that's only 10 watts per speaker! I can't wait to gig with the whole set-up.
I used it the other night with the 2-12 Jensens only and got rave reviews on the Tele tone it had. Should be even better with both cabs!
