Every single time I click on the electronics forum I get pop up ads for electronics stuff from cell phones to tv sets. Anybody else having this happen or is it my computer?

I never get any popups anywhere on the Forum. My pop-up and Adblock plugins wouldn't let them anyway. |

'fraid you are infected w/ some sort of spyware. Definitely not something that is originating from the forum and I'm MOST confident that b0b would sooner shut down than allow something like that, unannounced. As an aside--it would be perfectly within reason to raise revenue that way if he were to choose to--popups & stuff like that, I mean---b0b's call all the way. But not via spyware. He just wouldn't do it. [This message was edited by Jon Light on 20 February 2005 at 07:28 AM.] |

Yep, sure sounds like spyware.
I use "Adaware" and it gets rid of them all. Due to a bunch of products using sound-alike names, Adaware is kind of hard to find these days.
I can email you a version if you want Rick.

Install a pop-up stopper and also get SbyBot, a free download. Use it to clean out spyware and such on a regular basis. I never get pop-ups. Also Norton Corporate Edition with Firewall is doing a great job for me as well. |

The Microsoft Anti-Spyware is good too. I've had it installed for about a month. every now and then I run Ad Aware or Spybot just to make sure the Microsoft stuff hasn't missed anything, and so far it hasn't. |

I use Checkit86 pop up blocker, Norton Antivirus and Microsoft anti spyware. The Microsoft spyware program does a better job than the other spyware programs (adaware and spybot) at repairing registry changes caused by spyware and it can be set to run automatically like Norton.
Good luck,

Rick,
I would also suggest getting off of Internet Explorer, and using Mozilla Firefox for your start page. We have completely eliminated popups. Spybot and the others helped, but only Mozilla eliminated it. It is shareware stuff, and probably not enough people use it to make it worth spammers trouble.

I agree with Ken
I quit using IE and outlook express and went to firefox and thunderbird from mozilla.org. A whole lot more problems than just pop-ups are gone! |

Hey Jody, I went to www.spybot.com
haven't had one pop up ad since. So far it seems to be working fine with Explorer. If I continue to have any problems I'll take these guys advice and go with Mozzila.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
