Just a note to let people know about Swissvale Music, located in Swissvale, a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA. I had recently purchased a Nashville 400 for my son who is learning to play straight guitar. This amp had been properly modified, and as I soon found out, had a much clearer and warmer tone than either of my two Nashville 400's (one supposedly modified, the other original). In the never ending quest most steel players go through to improve their tone, I decided to have my amps modified, but since I play out regularly, I didn't want to ship them to Mississippi. Mike Brown of Peavey was very helpful in answering my questions and providing the kit part number. After sending several emails to Peavey dealers in the Pittsburgh area, Swissvale Music responded that, while they had not seen this particular mod before, they were confident that they could do it.

Well, I just picked up the amps last night, and man, what a difference. The technician there, named Paul, did a great job. I found him to be very meticulous, and careful about his work. When he had questions, he has a direct link to the Peavey techs in Meridian, and also called me a few times to let me know how the mods were going. On one of my amps, which was previously modified, Paul found at least two capacitors installed backwards (and yes, they were polarity sensitive electrolytics), and the op-amps were not the correct type. He did the complete mod on both amps, and I took my guitar to the store last night to try them out. I knew some of what to expect from hearing my son's amp, but to hear both of them in parallel now, nearly matched, and pumping some of the cleanest, warmest sound I have been able to generate for a long time, brought a big smile to my face, to say the least. While he spent considerable time on the first one coming up the learning curve, he did the second one in about 45 minutes he told me. He only charged me for 3 hours labor total, and I know he spent a lot more time than that. So I told him I would recommend him for this mod, and who knows, maybe more guys in the area would look him up.

Paul can be reached at Swissvale Music, 2037 Noble Street, Pittsburgh, PA. 15218, phone (412) 351-5882. In this day and age of not always getting what you pay for, it sure is nice to deal with someone who really cares, and knows, about what he is doing.

Lance, thanks for making everyone aware of this and thanks for supporting Peavey products. There are some very good techs at Peavey dealers such as Swissvale Music.
