Can someone help me identify this pickup? A friend gave me this unit and neither of us knows what it came out of. It measures 18,120 ohms and it is 4 1/4” long, by 1 1/8” wide and 11/16” deep. None of the holes in the bottom are threaded, which leaves me wondering how it was held in place.
Let the game begin… Thanks, Jon.

That's an old Dekley pickup from when the 10 and 12 string bodies were the same size, as MSA's of that era were. All the bobbins were the same size except that the extra two holes on the ends were only pushed through for 12 stringers.
The two small holes in the bottom are indeed self-threading mounting holes for 4-40 threaded studs, again ala MSA. There were corresponding holes in the body for the mounting studs, and the height adjustment was done from the bottom of the guitar. |

Jim, Thanks for the info! Any thoughts on the sonic merits of this pickup? Jon |

It's hard to say how they sound. Since leaving Dekley and moving to Texas, I have routed out the pickup cavities and tried both Barcus Berry and Lawrence pickups in mine. I didn't really notice much if any difference, so I think, as others have said, that these guitars have their own tone, regardless of the pickup. |
