I have seen a couple of guys getting the dobro sound out of their steel. Does anyone have information on what they are using to accomplish that? |

If you want a dobro sound out of a "box", as far as I'm concerned you can't beat Goodrich's Match Bro.

I use the Super Bro with my steel bar for "What was I thinking" and it has an electrified dobro sound with sustain. I find for the best result I have to run the wire from my volume pedal to super Bro then to the amp. |

What Smiley said plus a quick tweak to the left on the shift knob on the Nashville 400. Also, a teflon coated bar helps some--although not a lot. |

I find it works best also, if you turn all effects off.

I use a Boss SE-50 & use the Keyboard Multi 2 sound with just the PH & EQ & RV turned on. Phaser Mode 4, rate 40, depth 6, manual 54, resonance 52 step 3
Equalizer on Low EQ -10db, mid freq 2khz, mid eq -6db, high eq -1db, level 0 db. Reverb: time 2.0, pre delay 33ms, Lp filter 8khz, level 100
Midi control: receive off, midi ctl asn, phaser rate, midi ctl min, rate 0, max 100.
I have three of the SE-50 & have this as a dobro effect on all three of them.

When I had a Match Bro, I rigged up a neat thing for it. I put an extra 1/4" jack in the bottom of it and ran a couple of wires to the side of the on/off switch that did not control the dobro sound. Thus, when the switch was in that position, I had reverb. When I switched to the dobro sound, the reverb unit kicked off automatically, the same as if I had stomped on a footswitch. I plugged a cord into this extra jack and to the footswitch input on my rack mount reverb unit. What I had created was a foot switch on the on/off switch of the Match Bro. One problem I had though, was that yes, I had a dobro sound. But, the strings weren't laid out an tuned the same as a dobro. I found myself limited on playing dobro licks. Also, I had to watch which strings and frets I played. I had the same problem with a Steel
Rider midi set-up trying to play piano licks. The sound was there, just couldn't get the licks like a piano (but neither can a piano get steel licks just right either.) A big part of it was probably my lack of ability and not putting enough hours in on it. I finally just got rid of everything and went bact to just enjoying pure steel. |
