I'm lookin for something to practice with. I have BIAB on my computer but it's upstairs and my steel is downstairs with my amp. I'm lookin for some kinda rythym machine with a tempo adjustment, something I can enter chords into and play back..any ideas

Andy, I picked up a cheap laptop to use only for BIAB. It is a Dell 366 Mhz and it was about $150 on Ebay. It has Windows '98 which boots up fast and shuts down fast, so I can still use it even if I only have a few minutes to practice. I use a Tascam US122 USB interface to get line ins and outs. Works much better than any drum machine I ever tried, and you get the whole band, not just the drums.

I cobbled together a 450Mhz machine with used components from Ebay and my local computer guy for less than a $100 bucks, including a pertty good sound blaster sound card. It runs BIAB fine. I picked up a speaker system and router from walmart and have my home networked. I have BIAB on my downstairs computer and use my upstairs computers' hard drive for storage. For me, this is far better than just a drum machine and much easer to use.
just my opnion, your milage may vary

The BOSS JS 5 is a great little machine. It provides four accompliments, Drums , Bass, Inst 1 and Inst 2. It is much like BIAB but in a smaller package. It has 128 preset rhythms and a USER developed section plus a memory card slot that you can save many (100) songs on....
It will set you back about $350.00 new but it covers all the bases.. |

Andy, I have the Boss DR 5 with the Billy Cooper program. Billy's program was developed especially for steel players. The unit has bass, drums and piano and with Billy's setup you can create your own rhythm tracks the way you want them to be, i.e., intro, number of verses, etc. You can telephone Cooper's Music at 540/854-5940 or email coopersmusic@hotmail.com |

does the Boss js5 have any country style rythym patterns? and can you adjust the pitch, slow down the tempo, or change keys on it?

Andy:
I as well have the Boss DR-5 with the cooper program. theres quite abit you can do with this little machine. you can write whatever pattern you'd like, set what tempo you want, in just about any key. Billy developed this program for the DR-5, and when you hear him play using the DR-5, sounds like a complete band. the only down side of it is that you can only store 20 songs. but you can download it to a data filer and have an endless supply of background that your looking for. I use it alot in the solo gigs I do around here, and although at times it can be some button pushing, its super. give him a call and he can explain it to you. God Bless.
