Yup, I know that I should have paid attention to the connections before I started messing around with my Peavey Delta Blues amp...

Anyhow, there are two wires that connect the speaker to the amp -- one wire is yellow, and one is blue. Which of the latter wires is the negative, and which is the positive?

For future reference (other than paying more attention the first time around -- that would make too much sense!), is it possible to determine the wires' polarity by using a multimeter? If so, how? (As you can tell, I'm not terribly "up" on my electronics.) Thanks for any help.

John,
There was a thread a while back in which
Mike Brown stated that the blue wire is negative in the Peavey amps.
That's the way my NV 400 speaker is connected.

In this case, the yellow wire is positive and the blue is negative.

I was under the impression it doesn't matter if there is only one speaker, as in the Delta Blues. Only if you have two or more speakers do you need to worry about them all having the same polarity.

That's true, David. (As long as you'll never be using using two amps!) For a single speaker or amp application, speaker polarity don't matter a hill o' beans.

Thanks for all the help, everybody.

I did try doing a search before I posted, but my search-terms were too vague to give any meaningful results. Blake's helpful response inspired me to use the right terms -- "blue wire + Peavey," I think it was. That's where I found this helpful thread, which covered this territory over two years ago. I am slowly learning that the "search" button can be a very good friend!

Hey Guys, refresh my memory please. A quick touch of a low voltage battery on the speaker terminals, if the battery is positive to positive does the cone move out or in? My memory tells me the voice coil and cone suck in if positive to positive. Please step me thru this test so I can make note of it.
