one of my options for amps is a MM head. What are your opinions as to the difference between MM and Fender heads..i.e. Twin or Dual showman. Also, do you notice a significant difference between a head and a complete amp, using JBL D-120's or D-150 speakers. Have any of you found using a Black Widow as opposed to JBL's as showing any difference with a tube amp.

I don't notice much difference between Fenders and the MusicMans, when comparing similar types. (It's no secret that MM was trying to copy the Fender sound.)

"Piggy-backs" usually have an entirely different sound than a combo amp. Most piggy back speakers are bass reflex (closed-back) cabinets, and most combos (single-unit amps) are open backed. Do you want more punch, or more clarity? (It's hard to get both with a medium-powered amp.)

The "D" series JBL's were designed over 50 years ago, when a really "big" amp was 50 watts. They'll do a decent job, but won't handle anywhere near the power that a BW will, especially in an open-back cabinet. I'd use the "D" series for studio work, and the BW for live gigs.
