A good freind of mine just left town and left me w/ some gear that he couldnt take w/ him. I knew he was bringing a bunch of cables, tubes, and mic stands. But he ended up giving me a SKB case w/ an Alesis 3630 and a Yamaha SPX90II. I was kinda ho hum about it as I have had 3630s and wasnt crazy about em, and as far as the Yamaha went, it seemed like a first or 2nd generation reverb/effect unit.
Anyway, I had a beer w/ my freind before he split, to thank him. I offered to sell the stuff for him and send him the cash when he gets settled. He said that that was cool w/ the case and 3630, but told me to hang on to the SPX90II. I asked why it was so special, because I thought it was kinda outdated. And he told me that it was special because it came out of Danial Lanois' Kingsway studio and was used to record lots of Dylan and Emmylou vocals. I thought he was BSing, but he told me that Lanois was addicted to these old monsters. Sure enough, I got it home today and was fooling w/ the presets.........yup, there were "Bob 1", Bob 2" and "ELH1-3".
I don't wanna be a groupie or superfan, but I sure think its cool owning a piece of gear like that. I will give ya the update when I get time to track w/ it!

Nice, I like those--even the original first generation SPX90 has a chorus that you can't find on anything else. I have a big rack full of old stuff like that--one box may only excel on one thing (like the original Lexicon PCM60, which has an outstanding room for snare drums), so it's great to have the choices.
By the way, Lanois had his old Neve 8068 on Ebay recently for a cool quarter-mill... |

I just went to Ebay and saw thAt on the completed items page. AMAZINGLY, it got no bids. Well I guess if I ever have to dell it, I will have to ask $1000 for it instead of the $75 that its worth!
Fooled with it a little last night and there are a few usefull things, but for the most part cheezy!
