Topic: Tying up a goodrich pot |

I took apart my L120 to fix a noise problem (which worked, I think-- grounding problem, not dirty pot) but I undid the yellow string to do it. Duh!
I read Jeff Newman's article on Carter's website but I'm not following his brief description of how to string it.
If anybody feels capable of describing the process easily, or knows a good description online, please help me before I make a little yellow hangman's noose.

PS. I'm able to wind it so that the post travels properly provided I'm pulling the slack end of the string taut. What I can't figure out is how to tie it so that when the pedal is released (and I'm not pulling the end) it winds instead of just going slack.

Yeah, the pedal is right back to full-on static mode.
What do you guys think? When I took it apart, the sound cleaned up immediately. I could rotate the shaft on the pot (with instrument connected) and the sound was 100% clean. I know one of the leads to the pot is microphonic, and some of the sound was the wire touching the floor of the pedal.
If the pot operates cleanly while partially disassembled, does it mean I'm barking up the wrong tree with a new pot? Is my problem in the grounding of the pedal?

Burton;
Make sure the collar is not on the shaft so far that the edge of the collar rubs the mounting-threads of the pot itself when turning ON/OFF.
