Arrrr! Yaer missin' the point, Laddies! Ye've got all these oother instruments tryin' to emulate the steel guitar, (with varyin' degrees o' success, i might add), and NoW we got folks tryin to make their
byoo'ful [real] steel guitars sound like
EVERYTHIN' ELSE! Whot next?? Midi BAGPIPES?!?

Dixson,
Nobody loves the sound of a crying pedal steel more than I do, but the need or desire for the tone of a pedal steel is starting to dwindle....Anything that we can do to keep this instrument in the running is the best thing we can do for it ....As long as the pedal steel is visible in recording studio's and on stages, the better off we as steel players will be !!....If it's not seen, or desired , it will soon be a pedal what ?

PS.....I have a sampler and will be sampling the sound of bagpipes to be able to play them on my keyboard !!!...No disrespect to the bagpipes, but I don't have the wind for them, and wouldn't know where to start playing them, but I LOVE the sound of them !!!.... |

Actuaslly for years there has been a synth/sequencer with a button accordian type keyboard for accordionists, here.
Very very odd to look at let alone play.
Granted there are more accordionists in France per capita than anywhere else.
Many actually are very good players. Some brilliant jazzers.
There is a summer long outdoor"guinguet" circuit here,
usually featuring classic french music with a mini band or a accordionst with sequencer.
For me a midi synth is away to input stuff to a sequencer, and then layer things behind the steel.
Not a replacement for the steel sound.
I do have a gig coming up with a bunch of zydaco songs with accordion parts,
and little steel on those songs, but lots of steel in both sets.
I have a new electric mandolin with a midi pick up on it,
and I will do the accordion parts with that midi device.
Anytime you say... ohh I should try that, it isn't the way it's done,
you lose a possibility of something intereresting.
I wish I had a midi steel unit,
