| Anyone know about these? A local music store's got one for sale . $100 . Monster magnet(Alnico tin can). Weighs 40 pounds.Manufactured back in the 60's I think. I've got one of these in my B/F Twin Reverb, and yes...it's heavy. These speakers do seem to get heavier with age  , but even if it feels like it's 40 lbs., I think it's closer to 28. These are fabulous speakers, very efficient, crystal-clean, smooth, and tons of bottom-end power. They have a certain "sparkle", despite their big size. (Maybe that "whizzer" cone does that.)

Thanks Donny. Do you think it might be an answer do the harsh upper mids issue for a swap out with a Webb's JBL E130?

| This speaker will not fit into the Webb. Webb allows only front mounting and the EV sro can be rear mounted only due to basket rim shape. This spkr wont even fit into the 15" Marrs cab I just had built cuz the magnet is too large. Im going to have to make a custom cab for this thing. Is anybody out there actually useing one of these EV SRO puppies? |

I slapped one of those pups in my '71 twin and was very pleased with the tone---pleased enough to go get the other two that were available. Mine are the EV SRO 15B's, with weird fins on the magnets. I will use them for extensions. I will sell the third one---I just want a pair for myself.  |

OK...I put the BW 1501-4 in the Webb(OUT with the E130). The BW sound very smooth and full. Loved it.It's staying in.
I put the EV sro 15" into the Marrs cab leaving the back off completely open due to the size of magnet. Plugged it into the Webb. It sounded fabulous. Smooth with a sparkly edge probably due to that "whizzer" cone. Need to build a proper cab for this speaker. Shudda swapped that E130 out longer ago. At least these are my perceptions in the bedroom. I Look forward to real field tests. |
