my brother in law just brought me over a funky Gibson EH150 from Connecticut
i have noticed that the volume pot goes from off to full On immediatly without any taper (or course) - the tone pot does'nt work-
and the level of sound is half compared to my other EH 150.
so i would like to ask for some advice, before i start takin'it apart
could the PU also be the cause of this loss of power ? is there a way to test the PU without the pots ?
and what are the refs on the pots on these axes.
Thanx |

Since you have two, get an ohmmeter, and compare the readings of the unhooked pickups. Then, you'll know where you're at as far they're concerned. If you don't have a meter, then just A/B the two pickups into an amp.
The volume control is bad. Clean it or replace it. That'll correct the "no taper" problem you have (as long as the pot is the right type...1/2 meg audio-taper). |

Could easily be those big Bar Magnets need a re-mag.
If your resistance checks out OK and the pots are switched out and you still have less than stellar sound ... you know where to send them

the suite :
i done took out the innards of my two EH150s
and done the testing
the PU is Fine - the pots are shot
the funky EH150 had been messed with cause it really looked like a disaster compared to the original pristine but old set up.
Donny, is 1/2 meg audio taper the reference for a replacement pot ?
i need to replace both pots and the condensator(?)
i cant find any ohm or K values on them -
what should i get as replacements ?
Thanx gain |
