I've got these big Peavey speakers with the new BW's and though they're built like a tank I'm not sure if they're typical of the 115's I read about here.
The sound is a bit bassy and I'm thinking the cabinets are of the wrong variety. Can anyone here post some pictures or dimensions of they're Peavey steel guitar speakers with the 15's in them?
These speakers I've got are about 20" deep, 20" tall and about 18" wide with an open back. They've got the metal screen on the front with the BW emblem. They have the black carpet on them too with the sunk in handles on top. Anyone know what model Peaveys these are? |

Frank,
What is the number of the speaker(s)in the enclosures, that may be part of the problem.I have a Peavy 115 enclosure that is,26 1/2"H,13"D,24 1/2"W,with a 1502 4ohm,the tone when I use it at home is,as you say a bit muddy/bassy.I tried it as an extention, also as the main speaker with a session400,also tried it with a speaker cord, and a grounded guitar cord,no percievable difference,I never used it to play out because when I purchased it,I had almost quit playing at the time,my son used it with a Peavey "standard" head and got a pretty good result with regular guitar. It is enclosed back with front ports under the standard Peavey front screen.

Hi Frank,
Sounds like you've got the 115E cabinet. Is the cabinet partially open-back,with 2 input jacks? |

Jerry,
The size does not match a 115E. I have two of them and they are HxWxD = 22.2"x 18.3"x 14.2".

With metal screens sounds like they may be Peavey bass guitar cabs--and they would be more than a bit bassy. (or PA cabs?) I have a 115E classic cab in tweed tolex that is @24.5"x23.5"x11" with a partially open back and a single plug. I like the size and the warmth of the cab. However I am going to swap out the BW I have in it now and give a Weber Cali 15 a try since I use it with a Classic 100 amp head. Also I plan to build a new ported back for it to enclose it just a bit more--to try and kick down the bass response, and encourage the high end. Typically I would say the larger cabs are going to give you more bass response, but whether it is closed or open back will change things quite a bit. |

Jerry,
Yes the cabinet does have two inputs. Those dimensions aren't exact as it's not with me right now but I'll measure it and post it here. Mike Brown thinks I've got the 115E cabinets. He said there wasn't a lot of them made.[This message was edited by Frank Parish on 03 April 2004 at 03:32 PM.] |
