Topic: Rickenbacker making limited edition steel again? |

I went to the Elderly Instruments website and noticed that they will be selling a limited edition Rick lap steel after the first of the year. There is nothing mentioned about this on the Rickenbacker website.

Anyone have any idea about this? Which model is this?

I saw the NAMM "Special Edition" lap steel in Anaheim at the Show last year. It was nothing like the vintage Ricks. No horseshoe pick up, wood body etc. Looked pretty 'run-of-the-mill' imho. The guy at their booth didn't know much about the old steels. Only a few of their basses still use the horsehoe.

If there's no horseshoe pickup than why is Rickenbacker doing this? If all that's been discussed is true than this guitar is just a slab of wood with raised strings and a stock pickup, an eighth grade shop class project.
They could of reproduced the pickup to the original specs and went for the original design one hundred percent. But from what's been said it appears they didn't.
It sounds like they got lazy and didn't really give a damn. More of a board room decision than an artistic statement.
Doesn't Rickenbaker know what their vintage steels are going for these days? Fender and Gibson know the vintage market. They're reproducing and selling re-issues of their classic designs. Yeah, I know we're talking standard guitars vs. steels and the limited market etc., but come on, Rickenbacker should of done it right or not done it at all.
