Could someone point me to a good website or other good source of info?
I have been trying to find specs on the 70's Super Six, with little success. Was this like a Super Reverb with six speakers or a more of a Twin with six 10"? Or something else entirely?
One of my musician friends passed away and kind of left me his old SuperSix, I was thinking of having the head serviced and putting it in a new cabinet with one 15" and using it for steel. (The old cabinet is shot or I wouldn't butcher it).
Thanks!

From what I can tell it is a Twin with 6 10's. Rated at 100 watts or 135 if it is newer.

Thanks, guys. I'm not much of an electronics person. Since it has a 4 ohm output transformer, a 4 ohm speaker would be the correct thing to use, right? I knew I should have bought that 4 ohm EV that was in buy & sell last week! There is a real nice 115 cabinet for sale in ebay, this may be easy!

Doug,
Back in the '70s I took the head out of an old Super six and built a cabinet for it, the same size as a Twin Reverb. I put a 15" JBL in it. That was a really good sounding steel amp. I'm sure it would sound great with a Black Widow 1501 in it too.
I used that amp for several years, until someone broke into the club I was playing and stole it, and a lot of other equipment.

I got some information from another cabinetmaker, looks promising. I've also done some searches here on the forum for tone mods for the twin amps. This may be fun, although for what it's going to cost I could just buy another good amp! Oh well, it's a sentimental thing. My old buddy would think it's pretty neat. I'm thinking about one of the new Eminence Delta Lite speakers, but need to check on the impedance thing.

Type Fender Forum into your search engine, for the website. It is a very broadbased resource for any Fender question you have.

My condolences for the loss of your friend.

You can use a single 4 ohm or two 8 ohm speakers in parallel. If it's the later 135 watt model, you can also plug an additional 4 ohm load in the extension speaker jack.

If the amp's output impedance is designed for 6 speakers, there is no way to match it perfectly to one or 2 speakers. I'm assuming that speakers are available in only 4,8, or 16 ohms.

From what I read, the six 10" were wired series / parallel such that the total impedance was 5.2 ohms. I guess Fender wasn't too worried about a perfect match.

I believe you'll do fine at either 4 or 8 ohms. It should be able to take the minor mismatch either way. I'm the one that got that EV, BTW. Sorry.

Mr. E Bovine,
He can add any combination of speakers in series/parallel and if need be, add resistors in series/parallel to make the total outcome of resistance to match the required ohms. Phew!!
Have fun Doug.

Yes, you could replace all the speakers with resistors and get a perfect impedance match. It would be easier to carry too, and would sound better if you play banjo thru it.

I think adding resisters would be a bad idea. They would have to be pretty big too or they would get hot.
