I've been playing my Sho-bud through my Peavey Session 500 (Mk IV) and a friend suggested I try an old Roland 120 Jazz Chorus with it. I always hated that amp when playing 6 string but I think it sounds better than the Peavey....louder, clearer, more sustain and less distortion......am I imagining things? Wishful thinking because it is so much lighter in weight!!! I am a newcomer maybe this has been covered....any thoughts?

Could be because the Roland is Stereo. The Roland is a great sounding clean amp, but don't be deceived by its looks,In spite of its road case appearance, Its a Delicate amp and won't take the rigors of the road. The 1/4" jacks are plastic and wear out very early in the amps life. All of the control knobs are too Large and protrud past the front of the cabinet. If The amp tumbles over on its face, They are the first thing to catch the brunt of the fall. The pots have plastic shafts and its common to see a control broken off at the sleeve of the pot. This amp would definitely require some careful handling.

I would never buy one of these amps used, but I might buy a new one at a good discount price. For anyone who has a rack system and doesn't want to carry two speaker cabinets and a power amp, you can go directly into the power amps in the JC-120 and get 60 watts per channel, bypass the JC-120 preamp and have the sound of your rack system on a smaller scale.

The Roland JC 120 is probably the BEST sounding solid state amp of all time. They are a bit delicate but I used one for many years before I had trouble.Once it started to break down it was never the same,I could not get it repaired to my satisfaction and dumped it. If you are careful and take good care of your equipment,I think it will be fine. A lot of guys use them with NO problems bob
