I was wondering how many still use the Tube-Fex & how they like it.
Can you really get a good tube sound?? |

Richard, although I'd read that some didn't take to the Tubefex, I've been using one for a few months and I enjoy it.
With it I'm using the same settings offloaded from a cache card that I'd used in my Profex II.
The advantage of being able to tweak the knobs on the Tubefex is nice.
And it does have tube warmth that most SS preamps lack, IMHO.[This message was edited by David Cobb on 07 January 2004 at 07:54 PM.] |

I really like my Tubefex. The tone is fine and it will do everything but carry my amps and play my guitar for me. |

I have had both the Tubefex and the Transtubefex. Both sound great to me. I like the headphone jack on the Transtubefex, great for practice. I have a Tubefex with controller on the way in a few days. I also have a Transtubefex and a Bassfex (loaded with Newman settings). I will do some comparisons and post what I find. [This message was edited by Ken Fox on 07 January 2004 at 06:10 PM.] |

I have a Tubefex now and have owned a Transtubefex and i also like the headphone jack on the ttfex which the tfex don't have. you can't go wrong with either unit. i use my tfex for both steel and tele, plug the steel into the back and when i need the tele, plug it into the front jack, change patch and ready to rock. also great for playing direct to the board or recording.
The 12ax7 tubes do produce a really good overdrive sound or clean and sparkling.

Richard, I own two Tubefex units and use them onstage every weekend. The big advantage for me is that you get a stereo(although I prefer mono use for live) preamp with real tubes and all the effects you care to edit, along with a tuner all in one rack space. The cachecard makes transfer or storage of patches a breeze. Hard to beat when they can be gotten used for $300 or so. |

Richard, I have one on the way next week. It will get a new memory battery and be loaded with Newman or Peterson effects. if you need one, it will be in the range of $250.00, including shipping. I will post it on the for sale ads as soon as it is all checked out.

I have a Tubefex and only stopped using it when I got the TransFX 212pro stereo amp.
A smaller package than my whole bass rig, though not at all light.
I did play some bass thru it monday night in an acoustic jazz setting not to bad a low levels.
I am keeping the Tubefex and putting it into the studio rack as a guitar direct unit for the Protools. I only wish it had a slightly higher output level.
As an engineer I wish it would allow 2 instances of the same effect, especially compressors twice on either side of a distortion, and parallel noise gates too.
But otherwise it is a nice box and worked well for me.
I love the stereo amp version more and more, even without a real tube in it... except when carrying it.[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 08 January 2004 at 10:27 AM.] |
