How are the K-120 compared to a D-120? Will the K-120 sound good for steel?

Thanks,
Dag

The K-120 is based on the same frame/magnet as the D-120 only it's black. It's still that same sweet sounding alnico magnet like the D-120. As I remember, the voice coil was made stronger somehow so it could handle the heat better making it a higher power rated speaker. My understanding is that they are nearly identical in tone. Should be great for steel.

Dag: I have a K~120 in a Carvin X-60 amp that I use alot for fiddle, but it's too "light" to use for pedal steel, unless, of course, you are playing a super small room, or just around the pad... I do have a coupe of other amps with 15" JBLs in them to blow steel through tho.. Regards, Harley

Brad is totally correct in his post.
Junior Brown uses K-120's in all his Twins and plays and records steel guitar all the time and it handles just fine.
If you use two K-120's in a two speaker amp....No problem at all....If you use a 1-12 amp >No it won't handle steel very well at a big gig....because any amp that only has 1-12 in it....is most likely under wattage anyway.
I prefer the K's over the D's simply because they'll handle a little more than the D and sound the same.
I have a K-130 in my twin now....and a D-130 in an extension cabinet.....and it's the most wonderful sound I can ever hope for.
