Weber MASS attenuator/overdrive pedals

I tried out a bunch of different overdrive stompboxes recently, and all seemed to generate a very unpleasant non-musical distortion when I played more than one note at a time (I'm playing a LeGrande). A friend just told me about the Weber MASS attenuator - has anyone tried one of these out? I'm looking to get a little bit of breakup at lower volumes, not necessarily a totally overdriven sound.

I have not tried one, but the guys over at www.fenderforum.com talk about them all of the time. Also the THD hotplate, Dr.Z attenuator, and others. Try doing some searches over there.

Also, I recently built my own attenuator from a schematic in an old issue of Vintage Guitar. It works OK and cost me about $50. I believe that the article was in the January 2002 issue.
