I would like to compare my settings with yours. I would like to give yours a try. Here is where I am presently at:
Reverb: 3.5
Depth: Up
Expand: Down
Bass: 8
Body: 5.5
Treble: 1
Running an RV-3 as follows:
Balance: A little shy of 9 o'clock
Tone: 11 o'clock
R. Time: 1 o'clock
Mode: 7
Emmons SD-12 PP. Straight out of guitar, no matchbox. Goodrich 120 pedal. |

Back when I was playing an Emmons S-12 P/P my settings were:
Reverb - 3
Depth - Down (off)
Expand - Up (on)
Bass - 7
Body - 8
Treble - 1
With my Mullen S-12 the only thing I change is the Body. I set it at about 5 or 6. Everything else is about the same.
My Evans is a mid-1980's model (Shreveport) in the large cabinet.

George and Lee: What settings do you use for the master gain and volume. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. GFI D10, Hilton pedal, Boss RV5 and Boss DD3. |

Val, I am playing in my "pickin den" right now and I have the Master Gain on 2 and the volume on 4. I barely have to move the pedal for plenty of volume, but if I want sustain, the 4 gives me enough headroom to do it. If I would push the pedal all the way down, these settings would be way too loud for my den. |

OK, my ears have changed since last night, plus we are having a drastic change in the weather. Here are the settings that sound the best tonight:
Rev: 3.5
Depth: UP
Expand: UP
Bass: 7
Body: 5.5
Treble: 1
Lee, I also have a mid 1980's, large cabinet with a Black Widow, built in Shreveport. |

thanks George. Much, much better!!! My depth has to be down though. Don"t know when this one was built. It has the tweed cover,SER#961129C, McLeansville,NC., with what I believe is the orig. Eclipse spkr. What, in your opinion, does replacing the speaker do for sound (tone). Thanks in advance. |

Val, I am glad your amp is sounding better. The only experience I have had with Evans is my amp with the Black Widow speaker, so I am not qualified to answer your question about the difference in speakers. I know that here on the forum, I have noticed a few times that the Black Widow or a JBL seems to be the preferred speaker for an Evans. But once again, sound is in the ear of the beholder, I guess. |

I own a FET 500 LV. I changed out the Eclipse speaker to a Black Widow in my unit. The Eclipse speaker is a great speaker but was a little soft feeling to me. I prefer the harder sound of the Black Widow. The trade off is: The Eclipse was a warmer sounding speaker, but would not take the punch of the 10th string on C-6 without breaking up. Just my experience. |
