Hi all,

I have been scoping aroung for a steel guitar amp, and remembered trying out a Nashville 1000 a while back and being very disappointed in the reverb. I e-mailed Mike Brown to see if any changes were being planned in the reverb of the 1000, and he indicated to me that just recently a change has been made to the 1000 to change the two-spring reverb design to a three-spring reverb design (not sure if it is identical to the one used in the 400, though). Apparently, all new 1000's shipped from the factory will have the new reverb incorporated in it.

Anyhow, I hadn't seen this posted yet, and thought it would be valuable information for anyone who had considered this amp in the past and had a strong distaste for the sound from the two-spring'er......

I should also add that Mike has been very helpful, as he has been patient with my many questions about the amp and some of its potential other applications....thanks Mike!

I had Peavey do the reverb mod. in my amp, and it is great. I no longer carry a RV-3 pedal.

Randy or Mike Brown
What is involved in this mod? Is it replacing the pan or is there more involved?
I love my 1000 but when I got it the reverb pan was broken and the factory sent a replacement pan. I still have an RV3 in the loop and wouldn't mind leaving it out.
Thanks,
Mike Lewis

Hmmm, but Hmmm for another reason. Although I bought my 1000 used, I VERY MUCH like the reverb in it, but during those Wright Bros. sit ins at Beef & Boards there in Indy the drummer danced it all over the place so I had to go to the RV-3 which through Mike Brown's assistance on how to plug it up it sounded just dandy. But as long as I'm not sitting next to a drummer named BLUTO, (remember that thread, Ricky Davis?) I prefer the reverb in my 1000.
Hope all is well, Joe.

Michael,
you have to change out the pan to a 3 spring unit. There is also a modification to the circuit board.

Since this subject has been brought up recently on the Forum, now is a good time for an explanation.

With the above examples, you can notice that there are varied opinions about reverb characteristics in general. Some like this and some like that. Some like digital amd some like the spring type. But, from my experiences since day one with the Nashville 1000, most all of the purchasers of this model have been satisfied with its sound and reverb characteristics. However, there have been a few players(pro and weekend) that have commented about the reverb characteristics. So, I listened and worked with one of our amp engineers to try some of the suggestions on the reverb circuit of the Nashville 1000. Also, this was about the time the Nashville 112 amp was in process of being designed. When the time came to make the decision about the 112 reverb circuit, we found that a 3 spring reverb was more desirable than the two spring(for that model). So, I decided to change the 2 spring reverb in the Nashville 1000 to a 3 spring which is used in the Nashville 112.

The bottom line is that this is a very subjective situation and I chose what I thought was a better sounding reverb circuit at that time. Peavey dealer and player input was considered on this selection as well. There are no problems with the two spring choice and many players might prefer the two spring over the three spring. It's subjective. After all, some steelers use a Fender Twin which has a two spring reverb. Some don't like spring reverbs at all. I feel that this change will make the amp more desirable to existing users of the amp and attract those who don't use the amp.

To change to a 3 spring type, it requires that you change the 2-spring pan(PV #71011114) to a 3-spring(PV # 71011130), change R42 from a 10 ohm 1/4watt to a 33 ohm 1/4watt and also C39 from a 2.2mfd cap to a .22mfd cap(PV part#70320129).

IMPORTANT!-Since this is an electronic modification, it is required that the change be made by an authorized Peavey Service Center or here at the factory.

.. once again, Mike, thanks for the heads up (don't own a N1000 YET)... not many companies are this willing to divulge info on mods to their products. Good to see someone who actually cares about the customers, and sees tham as people rather than $ signs.

My thanks to Randy & Mike. As a matter of fact it's important to mention that I am very appreciative of the support, education, sharing etc. that the Steel Community provides. I've never experienced anything like it. Thanks to all!
