I am stumped.
I wanted to put a mild sort of fuzz into the signal chain (Boss Blues Driver); I tried it in the effects loop, so I could switch it on and off with the Peavey footswitch... it just doesn't get any distortion worth noticing... so I put it inline in front of the volume pedal, where it does work noticeably, BUT: when I turn it off, the bypass really colors the signal. It sounds awful, actually.
The question is: what do I do to deal with the bypass crumminess, but still have the option to have it actually work when necessary. Anyone have this problem, and/or a solution to it? |

You could use an AB switch box as it would allow you to have your steel signal direct to the amp. Then you could leave the fuzz or distortion device on all the time and use the AB box to loop the device into the signal chain.
I can't understand why your Boss effect "colors" the sound when not activated. Are you using a power supply with the effect and if so , is it a PSA-120 or other high quality power supply. Some power supplies do not behave properly with effect units. Also, the type and length of the hook up patch cords can make a difference in the sound.
I hope this helps.....

The fuzzbox is just running on a 9-volt. The sound running through the bypass is just very twangy and dry. Removing the box from the chain brought everything back to normal, but leaves me without a good way to have it inline so it can be used. |
