I have a friend who only recently acquired a new Guernsey 800.
Although he loves the guitar -- circumstances may mean he has to see it pass on.He is heartbroken as he waited over a year for oe on Ivan's works of art.
What would be a fair price for him to ask?
He is afraid that he may have to go and sell on e-bay and not put a sensible reserve on.
I also own an 800 -- sweet and beautifully made. I may not sound like Mike Auldridge but I keep trying !
( it was after playing mine that he decided to place an order!)
I have promised to forward any information to him.
Please note -- he is UK based so shipping becomes a factor for some.
Thanks for allowing the post here Brad.
I have also posted on the forum for sale page.
Regards,
Bill |

That would be a resophonic guitar made by Ivan Guernsey. Mr. Guernsey is recommended by Mike Auldridge among others.

Bill have your friend contact the London Resonator Center http://www.resocentre.com/
This is right up their alley. I have a guitar going there and Mel and Ron have been very nice to work with. I'm sure a Guernsey would be very welcome there. |

Brad, thank you, in my life I've had to make peace with my ignorance. |

Bill, you should go by what you paid for yours, he paid for his, and use that to figure a good, fair reserve.

Thanks for the replies -- much appreciated.
I know the London Reso Centre. I did some business there recently and acquired a beautiful Lebeda maple bodied sq. neck. Sounds really nice too --- a different voice from my Guernsey.
I have printed and forwarded your replies to my friend -- at the moment he is keeping the 800 clean and plays it and aplogises to it alternately.
I know I am going to see a good man cry when it goes.
I know this is not a for sale area here so again Brad - thanks for your indulgence.
One last lateral observation from the world of the hunt for the perfect tuning.
I have been experimenting with F#9 (?)
E C# G# E A#F# -- low to high
Nice --- lotsa potential.
Check it out !

Bill,
I've used F#m9 a bit, altho I tune L-H F#,A#,E,G#,C#,E....same notes, a combination of C#m and F#9....I like it, but I can't play many songs in that tuning...so those usually fall by the wayside for me...(I change strings too much already!)

I envy you Bill. I'm sending one of my wood body tricone "Weissonator's" but I shure wish I could take it in person. Those Lebeda's are very interesting looking. |

I have seen a pic of the weissonator.
What a beautiful piece !
London is about 200 miles away but I will try and go and play it if I can !
I am sure there will be a queue waiting to get their hands on it !
(well -- a few of us -- there are not very many lap sliders here!)
The Lebeda is fun to play -- really bright.
The Guernsey -- rich and full rounded sound.
I see why Mike A. loves them.
If you visit the UK --- mail me.
Come play the Lebeda and my Guernsey !
The Reso Centre Guys are good to deal with. A visit should be a necessity at some time.
A rare resource.
Good luck --- hope you manage to sell the guitar (No problem IMHO)
Best regards to you,
Bill |

Thanks Bill. I'm hoping it's there for the Christmas buying spree (do you have Christmas buying sprees in the UK? I hope so ) If I could take it myself I would. I had hoped to send it with a friend but since 9/11 she's changed plans and won't be going, at least in time to take it.
The guy who makes the "Resocaster" guitars sent me a pic he took of "The Wall" at the LRC...my God, it's like I died and went to reso-heaven.

The guy who makes the Resocaster is Peter Woodman. He also makes a fine Dobro type reso which sounds great. He is from the Isle of Man (small island between England and Ireland). Too few luthiers in the UK making resos --- to few of us playing too!
Christmas buying spree? --- anytime is a good time for a new guitar isn't it ?
I'm looking forward to having a pick --- drop me a line when you've shipped the Weissonator and I'll try and arrange my work diary to get to London.
All the best,

Pete! That's it! His name slipped my brain for a second. We've corresponded a bit and swapped some blues festival T-shirts and stuff. Nice guy.
The finish on this Weissonator is giving me fits (serves me right for making a guitar with 5,600 cut outs on the top) but I hope to have it licked soon. I'm also waiting on a case to be built. |
