I usually play 8 string A6 (Fender Deluxe). I may end up getting a Rick 6 string lap steel one of these days. I plan on tuning low to high:A,E,F#,A,C#,E Is this a fairly standard six string version for A6? I want to keep the intervals close to what I'm used to (I don't handle change well).

I prefer hi to low: E, C#, A, F#, E, C# because I like some of the voicings having that 5th & third in the bass allow.

I agree with Andy. It's nice to have that low tonic in the base, but the voicings you get with his tuning are nice to have. One compromise is to not have the 5th on top, so that you would have (l-h: A-C#-E-F#-A-C#).

I find this the best of both. The other thing I like about the A6 tuning over a C6 on the six-stringer is that it sounds a bit richer, being voiced a minor third lower, overall.

What Andy said. Plus, with your if you're using a standard C6 string gauge setup, it works well.
