I'm getting back into electric guitar, after years away from it, and I'm putting a pedalboard together. Delay, compressor, overdrive---fairly simple, mostly stuff I had left over. But I got to wondering;
What do you guys think is the dumbest effect
pedal ever made? I'm torn between an octave pedal, and the thing on the Danelectro reverb
that sounds like you kicked your amp.
What do you guys think?? |

That Dano thing so much makes me think of some pedal designers sitting around and smoking too much weed and coming up with that idea that I can't even call it dumb. It cracks me up. As long as they're not standing in front of me in line at Taco Bell for twenty minutes trying to decide what to order to feed their munchies they're ok with me.
There's a pedal that acts as an auto-volume swell that seems utterly useless to me and I nominate that one. |

I vote for the entire line of Danelectro pedals- what a bunch of junk. I hate chorus in all of it's forms, too.

The octave pedal is actually a very cool effect, if used wisely....maybe not for steel, though.
As far as the Dano line of pedals...I'm not sure, I'm reading "dumbest" as "useless" as opposed to poor quality.
Personally, I've never really seen the point behind Flange. A Phase pedal, now, I can get into that, but to have a cycle of hiss running under my guitar tone seems....useless. |

and second place goes to the framton voice box thing
"do you feel".........SMACK!!!!
hey, the dan-echo is a decent sounding box
and I have used tape echos and a memory man forever
and the dan-echo stands up pretty damn good
for an everynight simple echo, of course its like $100, not like the ones they are making now named after fried food or whatever, and its in a heavy steel box for durability. |

Geeze, 'ya mean I'm the only one here who really hates Tremolo?!  Actually, I'm not that crazy about playing with a lot of echo, either...you know, like when someone tries to do a "speed-picking" effect by using multiple repeats. It was neat in Les Paul's time, but then again, so were running boards.

Tony. The Dano pedals are very cool and are showing up in lot's of studio guitarists gear these days, especially in Nashville.
The yellow Tuna Melt vibrato has become my most used gadget. To say that all of these pedals are trash is just not true. |

I have a Roland GP-100 that has great reverbs and delays, etc. This unit has 400 effects and I use 4.
The other 396 offerings have some nice usable unusable effects but the overwhelming majority are weird.
Oh well....  |

I use PhotoShop a lot.
See Ricky's Dream for a recent PhotoShop image I'm quite proud of.
However the TONE CLONE was done using only MS PAINT, the free program that comes with Windows. It's a photo I took of my Boss Tuner, slightly modified.

Bill, if I'm not mistaken, the Dano Tuna Melt is a tremolo pedal. Tremolo is my favorite effect, but give me a soldering pencil and some wires and I'll make one while watching Jerry Springer...

The danelectro Sitar swami----Their isn't enough controlled substances IN THE WORLD to make it sound like a real sitar. I'd rather play a coral electric Razor. Its a more accurate sound.

Tony. Leo Fender put the word "vibrato" on the amp. It will always be vibrato to me even though it is tremelo.  |
