With the Peavey factory kit. However, the technician forgot to install the new IC chips. I didn't know until he called me a couple of hours into playing it. I was instantly impressed with the sound of my amp once I adjusted the EQ settings for it's new voicing so basically I am very happy.
Anytime I want those chips installed I can have it done free of charge but I wondering if it's that important. He didn't seem to think it would be a drastic change and I like what I'm hearing already. Can it possibly get better than this?

Shaan, why don't you do it and give us an opinion.. Tell the tech you want the old opamps back and if you liked it better before you can always put them back, they're all socketed. It's easy.. |

Before I do that I think I'll want to try and gig with it a few times, as if I have any steel gigs on the books anytime soon!
The mod sounded so good I bought a Nashville kit as a gift for my steel player Gary Newcomb for laying down some nice steel on our demo last night (don't tell him, it's a surprise He's never liked his tone with the Nashville 400 he's using but he loved the way the Vegas sounded in the studio and I did too!

The new chips will be quieter.
The tone/voicing will not change.

Shaan,
I too, have a Vegas 400 and have considered making the mod. I have spoken to Mike B. at Peavey about it a couple of times. It seems that it would turn around very fast if it sent it back to Peavey, plus the work would be done with their folks!
What is the main thing you have noticed about the tonal palette since you have had the mod done?

Hey Bill,
Luckily, Jon, my favorite amp guy in town has his shop about 5 minutes from where I live so I didn't have to ship it to Peavey.
I wish I could tell you specifically why it sounds so much better but as scientifically as I can get, I would say that the tonal qualites post mod kicked royal arse!
The 3rd string has a lot more presence now and the bass response is better too. I don't know much about electronics but Jon wrote down the ranges that the new OP amps are now operating at and if I were not at work I would list them here.
Anyway, I am completely satisfied with Peavey's mod product and I would recommend it especially for the price!
