Do you want it to sound like a steel through a Leslie?
Or do you want to make your steel sound like an organ (B3?) with a Leslie?
There is a difference.
For the latter, try a chain of
a) mild distortion, into
b) a filter that simulates a wah wah set almost all of the way down, into
c) a flanger with a reasonably high speed and a lot of regeneration and width.
Yes, I know it sounds weird, but I tried it with a six string and it gets amazingly close to the B3-Leslie. I have not tried it with a steel. You'll probably find, as I did with the six'er, that you need to adjust the flanger settings a little, as well as the notes and voicings that you play. It gives a pretty convincing sound if you hold one note and play other notes in the scale around it at the same time.
Let us know if you try it out.

I don't have a Profex any more, but I remember getting a reasonable organ sound out of the rotary effect by adding just a touch of pitch-shifting a fifth above the fundamental (+7 semitones).

I have never been satisfied with preset/Pre amp type Rotary simulators. I have owned many Leslies as well as simulators. And Then... I found the Hughes and Kettner Rotosphere. My search ended. No more extra cables, hernias, or weak programs. It has a nice Overdive as well. But- Try the chorused or detuned-envelope follower to simulate Percussion/attack; it's nice. A little slap back echo doesn't hurt. [This message was edited by Buck Dilly on 10 April 2003 at 11:20 AM.] |

Buck,
Here is one I worked up for my Profex II.
Don
Lesly
3B+RV+DL>CH Output Levels : 3B, 100%; RV, 25%; DL, 20%; CH, 80%
3B: Ty, Guitar; Lo, +50; MFrq, 850; Mid, -13; Hi, +16
RV: Ty, Plate; Sz, Large; Pd, 30ms; Tm, 2.9s; Dp, 8KHz; Mx, 100%
DL: Ty, Stereo; Ld, 301ms; Lf, 17%; Rd, 301ms; Rf, 17%; Ts, 1K; Mx, +100
CH: Rt, 5.3Hz; Dp, 8%; Dl, 8.5ms; Fb, 2%; Mx, +80
I have found that by changing the Rate on the chorus you can probably get close to what you may be looking for in the organ sound. I have used rates from 4Hz-6Hz.
Edited for clarity

Buck,
Try Newman pre-set # 41 on your ProFex.
