Hello Mike,
I'd like to run a problem by you that I'm having with my Vegas 400.

At first, it appears to be a potentiometer
problem, but I think it's more buried in the
amp.

The pre & post gains on BOTH channels are cutting in and out; breaking and cracking up.

It sounds like a speaker wire is loose. But I pulled the amp from the case and checked all the connections as well as cords being used.

I had this problem before and an electronics
tech repaired it and all was well, but he never listed on the bill as to what the problem was.

With this little info, can you diagnose and give me a clue as to what the problem is here?

Is it easy to repair, or should I take it to a tech [a different tech]?

Thanks Mike, for your time and expertise.

The only thing that comes to mind is possibly that the PULL function of the PRE GAIN pot is vibrating and is intermittently working. Other than this, the only thought that comes to mind is that they are both just intermittent pots. Have they possibly been bumped at one or another? If so, they are probably broken, but only a bench tech would know for sure.

Feel free to contact me if I can be of further assistance. 1-877-732-8391.

Thanks Mike.
Is it possible to order those pots directly from Peavey?

Yes, call the number above and ask for the Parts Department. Be sure that this is the problem though as I can't confirm this until it hits the repair bench.

Thanks Mike,
On second thought, Doug Beaumier teaches at
"Downtown Sounds" in Northampton, MA and I ran into him up there and he told me they have
a really good electronics tech.
Downtown Sounds carries a fairly large array
of Peavey amps, so they must be an authorized dealer.

I'll take the head up there; I really don't want to botch it up.

I appreciate your time an effort, Mike.
