I run the 2 eff knobs about 12:00 on Stereo Steel. And i run the LXP-1
* Input about 10:00 to 12:00
* Mix about 12:00
* Output 1:00 to 2:00
I also run a Boss SE-50 for delay. I'm just wondering if i'm missing something. It seems like it should sound better coming out of the Two D-130's than the ear phones. Everyone please jump in, This will probably help a whole bunch of us. Thanks a 1/2 million. |

I run the LXP-1 full stereo through the L/R ins/outs on the back of the Stereo Steel.
When running this method I run the "Mix" at 100% on the LXP-1, and control the amount of effect by using "Efex" controls on the Stereo Steel unit, which for me seems to typically be in the 9 o'clock to 11 o'clock position.
I run the input on the LXP-1 at about 9-11 o'clock also. This needs to be balanced with the Gain knob on the Stereo Steel.
My understanding from Gerry is that the Gain knob controls how much signal is Sent to the effects loop. I don't know if it is my pickups or whatever, but the Gain on the Stero Steel and the Input on the LXP-1 need to be both set near the 9 0'clock position or else I can hear some distorion of the LXP-1 (watch the little red light on the LXP-1 to get the mix right for your setup).
I also run the output on the LXP-1 at 100% most of the time. On stage I run it between 3 o'clock and wide open, as this is basically a convenient one knob adjustment for overall effects level, as on some songs I want a little more or less.
To summarize:
Stereo Steel:
Gain = 9 O'clock
Efex= 9 to 11 O'clock
LXP-1
Input = 9 to 11 O'clock
Mix = Wide Open (Controlled by the Stereo Steel)
Output = 3 o'clock to Wide Open
Gerry Walker is the person who reccomended the LXP-1 to me for use with the Stereo Steel.
They are usually available in Ebay for $125-$175-ish depending on what accessories are included. It has a little threaded hole in the bottom for mounting and I mounted mine in an old Alesis micro-verb effects tray I had laying around.
I have a 2-space SKB rack with the Stereo Steel and LXP-1, and that's all I'm using for everything I play at this time.

Thanks Pete, Wow what a great response, I will try this shortly. If it sounds a lot better you will hear me all the way out to your house.

Pete is the Gain and the master on the stereo steel is the master suppose to be hotter than the gain. I think if one is to hot it will make it distort. Pete i tried all you said but didn't seem to work for my entire setup. I do run a Boss delay at 300 Milliseconds. I'm really concerned about the Master and the gain where they should be. It seems like on the older amps i use to use the master should be hotter then volume which i guess would be the same. thanks. |

Gary, I don't play real loud in general, so I run the Gain, the Left and Right Volume, and the Master Volume, all at about 9 o'clock.
I'm using the Stereo Steel amp, and I'm not sure how it differs from the Stereo Steel pre-amp, so I'm not absolutely sure we are comparing apples to apples.
I do really like the sound of the LXP-1 reverb though, and I typically use the effect setting at the 6 o'clock position, pointing straight down (I forget what it's called), Decay between 12 and 3 o'clock, and Delay between 2-4 o'clock.
I love knobs!
