Hi Mike:
I've had this old Peavey Bass Cabinet sitting in the basement collecting dust for a good long while now, and wondering if you can tell me a little bit more about the speakers that are in it, and if they will work for steel:

It's a Peavey 215D cabinet (BIG, BIG, BIG) - the serial numbers on the outside of the cab are
Model 215D
8E-03538790
88C

The two (2) 15" front loaded speakers inside have "H325" on the back of the cones, the speakers themselves are black with aluminum frames and silver mounting "rings". Also, both speakers have a small, rectangular white sticker on them with the following:
SP15825
96000274
REPL Bskt 00013820
Stock Sales
00013720
71200638

Any idea what they are and what the power rating and impedence are - before I go blowing up my amp?

Thanks in advance - any help from all of you out in virtual pedal steelville would be appreciated, too!

thanks
lc

The 2-15" configuration that you have is loaded with Peavey Scorpion Plus speakers, which were made right here in Meridian, Mississippi. However, all Scorpion speakers that I know of have a silver aluminum frame, but the numbers that you have provided are definitely Scorpions.

The model is the SP15825, which breaks down to mean the following;
SP means Scorpion Plus
"15" means fifteen inch
"8" means that it is an eight ohm impedance
"25" means that it has a 2.5" voice coil

The power handling is 150 watts continuous.

Whether it would sound good for steel, I could not provide an honest answer until I tried it out. You would be in a better position to inform Forum participants after you've tried it out.

Many thanks, Mike - I'll let you and the rest of the forum know how they work out. And yes, the speakers do have silver aluminum mounts/frames.

Best wishes,
lc
