I would like to hear some opinions on pickups
for the C6 neck of mid 70's Super Pro. I have a George L on the E9th now and want to
change the other neck.Bobbe if your out there
batter up. |

Chuck,
Just MHO on the concept of pickups, but if I had a George L in the E9 neck, regardless of model... E-66, 10-1, PF, TW, LSMFT, whatever..., I'd want the same model in the C6 neck. I personally prefer a balanced tone between the two necks since I frequently play both necks during the course of one song.

When I had my Super Pro, I installed Lawrence 710's on both necks and improved the sound 100%.

In Sho-Buds, I prefer wood necks. The Pro-III was an ill-advised design, IMHO. In Emmons guitars, I prefer the metal necks, though I have heard some wood necks that were wonderful sounding guitars.

I'd like to amplify my comments about Emmons wood neck guitars somewhat, since reading the post, in retrospect, it sounds like I don't really care for that design.
ON THE CONTRARY... I own an Emmons with wood neck inserts and it's a super fine sounding guitar. I would LOVE to own a lacquer cabinet Emmons with wood neck inserts, much like the horn that's on Bobbe Seymour's website at this time. I saw Cal play that guitar in the early 80's and was blown away by the tone.
But the Emmonses that have consistently rung my chimes more than anything else have all been metal necks. That doesn't change the fact that I'm just queer for Emmons guitars, period.

Chuck; I'll have to go with Richard also. I believe the George L to be the absolute WRONG pick up for a Shobud all wood pedal steel.
710 is the way to go in my opinion.

OOOOOPS! I just read your post and you were asking me if I had a preference of PICKUP for wood neck guitars like Sho-Buds! Duh!
Well, years ago I put 705's in my Sho~Bud and while they sounded good, the guitar didn't sound like a Sho~Bud anymore... to me anyway. I reinstalled the SB pickups. Shortly thereafter I went to Emmons and there I have remained. So, no, I don't have a preference. But if Ricky says the 710 is the way to go, it probably is the way to go.

Bobbe would have a definite opinion about a pickup choice.....'course it would change next week or so. I like a guy with versatile opinions, sometimes affected by the weather, sunspots, etc.
Actually, I've seen Bobbe go through every pickup made trying to get what he wants out of a guitar. His last choices on a ShoBud Pro III metal-neck were BL705's.
He also had me put BL910's on a wood-neck 'Professional', saying that sounded best to him. To me? I agreed with Bobbe on those 2 guitars.
