I play steel and acoustic in my band and run both through a 400 with great results. I will soon be adding banjo to the arsenal. Since there are only two inputs on the 400, I thought of running the guitar and banjo through an A-B switcher into one input and the steel through the other.

Anybody run more than two instruments through their amps?

thanks,

Drew Howard

I use a Boss LS-2 and like it a lot.

I use it as an AB switch, but it can be configured as an ABC selector.

It's very versitile, inexpensive, and built solid. http://www.amptone.com/bossls2.htm

I only use one input on the Nash 400.

Thanks Joey.

I forgot that Whirlwind makes selector boxes as well, 2>1 and 4>1 models. You can also reverse function for 1>2 or 4>1.

Drew,
I'd be interested in hearing what kind of amplification/pickup you are using for your banjo.
I recently installed a Fishman on mine, but I haven't got it tweaked yet - it sounds thin and tinny. (Placement under the head is important, and I haven't got it right yet) I also now use the matching pre-amp, and go right into the board.
After using my Nash 400 for it for a while, I finally gave up, as the differences in equalization were too much for instant bandstand changes.

Years ago I played some 5 string banjo. I used a contact pickup and placed it right on the outside of the skin. I thought it sounded ok.

Drew,

I use an LR Baggs Paracoustic DI in line with my dobro to handle the tone setting issue with multi instruments into one amp.

Thanks for the ideas, guys.

The fiddler in my band plays fiddle and plectrum banjo in an Irish band, and she uses a Pick-Up The World contact pickup on the head behind the bridge. They're around $90.00 at Elderly, so I think I'm going to go with that. As for pre-amp, I'll use a Baggs Paracoustic DI, like what Bob uses. I used one in a band last year for mandolin and they ruled (lotsa headroom).

keep'em comin'!
