I just thought I would pass this along, maybe save someone some work. I am working on an old D-8 National and had to remove the tuners to replace the buttons. Some of the screws that hold on the individual tuners twisted off. I took a dremel tool and routed around the screw, then took my soldering iron and heated the screw, then removed them with needle nose pliers. Some I had to get so hot to get them loose that it burned some of the wood and I had to make repairs with dowel pins glued in and then redrill the holes for the screws. It all came out as a good fix but a lot of extra work, wish I had thought of using the iron before I twisted them off. Maybe we could have a catagory titled Tech Tips, but I probably wouldn't have remembered to look there first. Anyway it worked for me, hope it helps someome else.

Good idea. Here's another tip using heat that worked for me. The plastic pick-up liner in one of the pickups on my '52 Fender Custom had deteriorated over the years and was touching the pickup causing a crackling sound through the amp. I heated a butter knife and used it to press the plastic back up into place. It worked like the proverbial charm and I never had the problem again.
