Topic: Help with a Session 500 |

| I own a pristine 500 but lately the Limit light is on after weeks of an on and off problem and now it is on all of the time. I do not have the remote switch and wondered if anyone has had the same problem and how they eliminated it. I did add a LeMay mod to it in 2000 but don't know whether that has anything to do with it. Gary,
Sounds foolish, but check your speaker cable and connections very carefully. Do this with the amp off, and use an ohmmeter if you have to. If the factory "zip-cord" speaker wires and molded plug show any problem whatsoever, replace the entire speaker cable with at least 16-2 and a good Switchcraft angle plug. If there is an output impedence problem (no matter what the cause is) your limit light will stay on. Also check to make sure both string effect controls are completely off. If these simple things don't fix the problem, you could have a bad or loose resistor on one of the output transistors, or a bad connection in one of the "molex" connectors. Then there is always the possibility of a tired filter cap. Assuming that this 20 year-old amp has anywhere near as many hours on it as most of them do, it's time for a tech to go through it anyway. Electronic components can age and go bad over time even if the amp has been stored in the closet. Anyhow, good luck!

Gary,I agree with Tim..The possibilites are numerous..Could be,anything from a bad led on the light, loose or dirty connection, to componant failure..I have 2 old Session 500's and when they get 20 years or so old, something is bound to wear/age out..
If the simple things mentioned dont fix it, I would get it to a tech or better yet, Peavey..

Gary, I just had this same problem with my Nashville 400, From the advice of many here I took the amp head out of the cabinet, cleaned all the connectors inside the amp and input jacks front panle and rear panel, cleaned the white molex connector for the reverb, tightned them all up a bit, cleaned the speaker connections at the speaker, stripped back the speaker wire and then put the whole thing back together. It worked great , the problem was gone. I used the amp Friday night for a two hour jam session and it was sounding it's typical great self again.

I did what tony said to my session 500,and cleared it right up.I guess the white molex connector get a oxidation build up on them with time and cause a little resistance in the circuit,any way good luck and hope your get your amp back to good health....

| Thanks guys. Sounds like a faily common problem. Prior to installing the LeMay mod kit, the amp would cut in and out volume wise and when I put the kit in I think cleaning the Molex connectors took care of the problem because I did nothing else and it cleared up and now after a little over a year I have this problem which drops the volume in half. So it looks like time to do another cleaning. Again, thanks for the great advice, Gary. |

Allso while you have your amp down for cleaning,get you some TV tuner cleaner or deoxit and clean all the pots.If I remember correctly,you can spray the cleaner through a small port on the back side of the pot as well as from the front where the shaft protruds from.work each shaft back and forth as you spray and this will stop alot of scratching noise and volume dropping out.happy trails and many melodies.....

| Gary, it pays to listen to another 500 owner and of course by now I have figured that the 500s do this sort of thing on a regular basis. It sounds like the norm is to do this on a planned maintanance schedule to keep this from occuring at the wrong time, thanks, Gary. |
