THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL TOPICS IN THE PAST YEAR OR SO ABOUT NEW "STATE OF THE ART" ELECTRONIC PICKUPS..IT SEEMS THEY HAVE ARRIVED..I JUST READ AN ARTICLE IN THE JANUARY ISSUE OF POPULAR SCIENCE, PAGE 40 STATING "LIGHTWAVE SYSTEMS" ARE NOW BUILDING THEM..
HAS ANYONE SEEN OR USED ONE OF THESE??I AM CURIOUS HOW THEY COMPARE TO THE MAGNET/WIRE PICKUPS..THE CONSEPT IS VERY INTERESTING..

As a tech....
I'm sure this devise would work very well with a bass or lead instrument but I have some douts about the PSG usage. The bass axe has a very large string movement which the optics can respond to. The PSG string movement is however, small (especially above the 10th fret) and I wonder about sustain and such. The concept is good and sounds like it would be the answer to the EMI problems we pickers all suffer.
If anyone has tried this device, I for one would like some feedback about it. |

| Jerry, thanks for making this post. I knew it was only a matter of time before many other types of pickups started being available. We have been working on our own infrared pickup. Bill, if you have any doubts about this new technology, take a long look at your T.V. remote control. My remote can get more than 127 channels,turn up volume, turn off T.V., turn on VCR,even set time on the VCR for delayed recording. Bill, the next time you go to the grocery store check out line, take a long look at the way your stuff is scanned and priced. Both these systems work with infrared technology. If it wasn't for Thomas Edison, we would all be watching T.V. in the dark! |

Keith , can you tell us more about your new pickups, how they work and at what stage your in as far as putting them on the market??I am sure there are many of us who are curious..

| To answer your question Jerry; They are in the prototype development stage, as is a dobro effect unit. We also have a Do Wah pedal in the prototype stage. We moved 25 miles north to Ozark, Missouri, to a bigger building to work out of. The move slowed me down a little. |
