My Encore 65 valve amp (about 15 years old) has developed a terrible buzz, even with nothing plugged into it, and with the volume on zero. I have changed the power valves, and it is better, but after about 5 minutes of playing it starts buzzing again. Could it be the small AX7 valves? Does anybody have any knowledge of this amp? Thanks in advance, Richard.

If the noise is a loud hum, not affected by the volume controls, then it is probably an electrolytic filter capacitor.
A heater-cathode short in a tube could cause the same sound, but unless it is in the driver or output stages, the volume control would have some effect.
It is a technician job to replace the cap.

Our best guess is that it is a 100mfd@350v cap in the power supply. Or, it could be a solder joint or intermittent connection on that cap.

Thanks, Blake and Mike.
I shall take the amp for professional repair.
