Is there a difference between a dual channel pre-amp and a stereo pre-amp? Would it make any difference anyway, if you were using a stereo effects unit, such as a Lexicon, and then going into a stereo power amp? Any comments? Thanks. |

Hi Fred,
You're sending a mono signal from your guitar into the pre-amp's input. Where the stereo part comes in is in the effects and the output. Ideally, you want to use a stereo effects loop within the pre-amp to send a mono signal to the stereo effects processor, then return a stereo effects return back to the pre-amp. For best sound quality you should run the effect at 100% wet and set your wet/dry mix with the effect's return control on the pre-amp. The pre-amp's stereo outputs go to your stereo power amp's inputs. If you're using separate cabinets for each side of the stereo power amp you'll hear your effects in stereo. The stereo choruses will pan and the ping pong delays will, well, ping or pong.
Two channel pre-amps are generally for setting up two different sounds that you can switch back and forth between.
