Topic: Peavy CS800 S Power problem |

| I reciently bough this amp to play stereo with my Proflex II thinking that it would have twice the power than my Peavy Session 400 but now I fine that I have to turn up the input level of the Proflex II and this still doesn't give my the power of my Session. Is this amp working properly? Would appriciate any ideas. |

I don't remember, but is there an output level adjustment on the Profex II. Power amps usually need a higher "line level" instead of instrument level that is used in regular guitar amps.

Ther IS a output level control in the back of the Profex II. Just turn it all the way up. You may need to back off of it a bit tho to get a clean sound into the CS-800. I'm not sure exactly what the max output of the Profex II is but I don't think it would be more than 1 volt.
I have used this setup on several occasions and find it to be most satisfying.
Profex II to CS-800 into a pair of SP2's..... Boy, you don't get any more in your face than that. Killer sound.

| The output in the back of the ProflexII has been all the way up since I first got it. Through my out system I could only put the amps volume up only half way and I'd blow everyone off the stage. Not I have this CS800S all the way up and it doesn't come close to the power I had before. |

That should blow people away. In the stereo mode it is 400 watts per side. I assume you have the input level controls on the CS800 turned up. Also try the bridged mode and see what happens.
Then again, it may have a problem and the reason it was sold. |

Hi Roger:
If I remember correctly, you used your profex into the input of your amp rather than the effects loop. This will certainly give you a huge power boost when using it this way. I also believe the Profex has a utility section that may allow you to adjust the gain level. I had a tubefex and it had this feature. You may want to post a question to Mike Brown and he will be able to answer your question.

I just looked at the Profex II manual and it makes reference to the GLOBAL level adjustments. Check the global levels and make sure they are up. If it's like my Transtube Fex there is a global input and output level adjustment, in addition to the knobs for input and output levels.
The Peavey manual doesn't say much about it other than there are global adjustments.
Actually the downloaded manual from Peavey is a poor reproduction of the manual and is hard to read, but it's one step above not having one.
Two other things to try, if the global levels doesn't take care of it. (1) Try running the Profex II into the POWER AMP IN on the amp, instead of the instrument in. This would be like running the Profex II into a power amp, such as the CS800, and you can see how loud you are there. If it's not very loud then the problem is probably in the Profex II. If it as loud as it is running into the instrument in jack then the problem is in the CS800. (2) If you have a RAM card and your programs backed up, you can try a "factory reset" on the Profex II. The factory reset seems to take care of a lot of problems in the Profex II, however a factory reset WILL WIPE OUT ANY USER PROGRAMS. |

| You can Make a simple mod to the output of the Profex by soldering a 10k 1/4 Watt Resistor across R 910 and another 10K across R922.. |

| I wish to thank all who replyed to this post, I may have solved the problem! Seems around the time I recieved this amp the pot in my volume pedal went bad. After remembering this I rotated the pot a little forward from where it was set and I seem to have much more power. I'll know for sure at my next gig in February, We'll keep you posted and let you know for sure. Again thanks for all the help. |
