I think PEAVEY (Sessions or Nashvilles) are the amp(s) for steels. I think George L's are the best bars. I think Goodrich is the best volume pedal. I think Emmons or Sho-bud are the best pedal steels ever made. I'm not sure what the best string brand is? What is it?

I think that some players would be really surprised if they knew how few string manufacturers there really are!

Abraham -

FWIW, as you can imagine, the old game of which is best has been done to death here and probably everywhere else. It doesn't get you anywhere anyway. I take it from your other posts that you're looking to get your first steel and amp, etc. - right?

There are definately a lot of folks around here glad to help (myself included), but raqnking things isn't going to help. In the long run, you'll come to have your own preferences just like everybody else - so what's in a ranking?

Here's a couple of links that might help. You can also click on the 'links' button on this page for access to a whole lot of steel vendors and manufacturers, etc.

Finally, if you have some kind of a plan about what you're looking for and how much money you're looking to spend, I'm sure you'll get PLENTY of suggestions. But after that, 'which one is best' is for you to decide...

Good luck.

Without a doubt, the best smelling amp is the Evans SE series with the tooled tolex.

This is not just an electronics item but more a general preference statement. Thus I'm moving this to the Pedal Steel section.
