Worth the money?....worth the money?...
No - I'm not touching that one. I will say that I have one and so do a lot of folks. They've been around a long time, and you would probably do well to do a search (top of page) on 7A or something like that for more opinions and info.
I have 3 guitars, but I don't use it all the time, nor on all guitars. It adds some gain and you can vary the tone somewhat, so if you're looking for those kinds of things, it might help you out.
I don't know if there are any 'magic bullets', though.
Good luck....oh, and you might want to think about turning your caps lock off (unless you're really p!ssed or something...).

Hey Chris...I used a matchbox for years. Up until I had my N400 modded by John Lemay...It always improved the sound of my stock equipment. I also have a Mosvalve rig with a Blue Tube II preamp which has the steel mod. It is my opinion that the matchbox seems to make less of a difference in these units that have more gain in the preamp. If I were using a stock set-up, I'd definitely have the matchbox in my chain. The Goodrich guys make great products for steel guitar.

I have a Model 7A.
I agree that it cleans up the tone with a pot pedal and makes it more consistent through its travel.
The tone control can be useful if you have a D10 and like to be able to vary your sound from the guitar (rather than the amp) when switching from E9th to C6th.
The gain control can also be useful in going from a backup to a lead volume quickly without changing how you use your pedal.
With respect, I don't agree that it improves the sustain; IMO that's either in the guitar or not.
Is it worth the money? What Steve said. See if you can find a way to try it out.
Hope this helps, Bob |

I use the gain control portion like Bob says, works perfect, especially in the tv studio |
